So I ended up going to PunkinPalooza 2005 with my friend Jonathan. We had brunch and weren’t planning to carve pumpkins, but one of the girls, Tricia, was on her own and enlisted our help. They had a band, Vakum, playing the whole afternoon on the front porch while we carved on the front lawn. No cops came (probably cuz of the work action), and every passer-by stopped to take a peek. A couple neighbourhood kids taking in the music joined in on the carving too.

We had a great time. Here’s a link to the pics…oh yeah — we ended up winning the contest!

Back from Cancun and other musings

I’ve been back from Cancun for a week now, just missing Hurricane Wilma. While I was there it was awesome. It’s too bad what’s happened over there for now, as tourism is the economy there.

On a totally different note, I do not and will not ever understand women. I was chewed out by a friend of mine recently about an evite invitation. I admit that I did not read it carefully, but after showing it to a few of my co-workers, they all came away with the impression that it was a pumpkin carving event. They all missed the fact that there was a brunch in there too. Since I’m not so hot about pumpkin carving, I was still deciding whether to go or not.

Anyhow, we’re chatting about it, and it’s clarified that brunch is actually the main event. Then she complains that “everyone just reads the evite but they don’t respond :| or they just tell me verbally”. So to explain why, I mention how it’s easier for people to disregard mass emails, because you’re a small percentage of the invite and it’s easy to hide behind that. She then proceeds to go ballistic about how this is not true, because 30 people who have attended the event before and know what it’s about have responded already. I find myself disinvited.

Wait, didn’t you just complain about how people don’t respond? Huh?!

Went to see John Mayer Trio at Koolhaus last night, and had an awesome time. He didn’t play anything from his albums except for 2 songs…the rest were bluesy stuff and covers. It’s risky move, departing from his pop roots and potentially alienating his fans, but I think it’s a good move. He did perform an amazing rendition of Daughters though. The crowd went bonkers and sang half the song for him…my expectations were exceeded. It was actually my first ever non-asian concert, and I will be going to more for sure.

Tonight I went to see a play called Banana Boys with Serina and Will…it was a lot more serious than I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it a lot. It’s definitely worth the admission price (Serina knew one of the actors, so it was free for us!). Afterwards we went to eat at Taro Grill with Dale, the actor, and the costume/set designer Cammy. It was really interesting finding out how they got into the acting/theatre business, as it’s such a departure from the technical world me and my friends live in.

Oh yeah, Cancun in 2 days!
